So far, Likud and the ultra-Orthodox parties Shas and United Torah Judaism have thrown their support behind Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Kahol Lavan and Yesh Atid recommended the latter‘s chairman, Yair Lapid, and Naftali Bennett‘s Yamina, courted by both blocs, put forth its own chairman as their candidate.

After consultations with Yamina, Rivlin, who stressed his difficulty to see a clear path to a stable coalition, said he may pass on the mandate to form a coalition to the Knesset.
