Train drivers are refusing to cross picket lines and adding to the misery faced by commuters during one of the biggest rail strikes since the industry was privatised.
More than 400,000 passengers on Northern and Merseyrail have been hit by disruption after 2,000 RMT union members began a 24 hour walkout at midnight in a row over the role of train guards.
