Myanmar‘s government has declared a state of emergency in the eastern part of the country as fighting with ethnic rebels intensifies.

Myanmar’s government imposed martial law in the Kokang region of the country after fighting between ethnic rebels and governement forces erupted Feb. 9, the president announced Tuesday.
