Lima’s Mayor Starts Elimination of All Downtown Murals

One of the murals already removed was from Peruvian artists Olfer Leonardo. He has created murals in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. He still has several murals downtown but they will all be removed under the mayor’s plan. As an example of his work, Olfer explains the meaning of one of his murals saying that “there are two images looking at each other. One is of the Awajún, the native community that was slaughtered and continues to resist in defense of their land. And the other character is the Yacumama, which is blowing. Yacumama is the mother of the jungle.“
