(29.Januar) During Kono’s talks in Beijing, the two countries have agreed on resuming reciprocal visits, holding the trilateral summit, continuing to work together to denuclearise the Korean peninsula, and implementing a maritime and air communication mechanism in the East China Sea. The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday in Beijing that that the relations are at a crucial stage and the two sides have reached consensus on improving bilateral ties, but disturbances and obstructions remain and Beijing hoped that Japan could work with China to bring relations back onto the track of sound and normal development. On the other hand, an editorial in the China Daily, the government-owned newspaper, reminded onlookers that fundamental issues are involved.
