One of the common misnomers when it comes to service in the military is the idea of ‘discipline’. This term is often catapulted around by those who’ve never served in the military and those who have a romanticised idea of what it entails. This is usually followed up with the notion that military service is the answer to a majority of the problems we face in society today. However I feel the use of this word ‘discipline’ is Orwellian doublespeak and is at best interchangeable with the term ‘obedience’.
