Theresa May, the Home Secretary, is set to announce a broad independent inquiry as she makes a statement to MPs about claims of organised child abuse at Westminster in the 1980s.

Mrs May will announce a wider ranging inquiry into how accusations of abuse were not picked up in public institutions in Whitehall, in care homes, across the NHS and at the BBC.
