A 40-strong unit called the Military Reaction Force was recruited from the Army and had licence to fire at unarmed IRA suspects and carry out drive-by shootings.
Its existence in west Belfast 40 years ago is revealed tonight in a BBC Panorama programme on which seven former members speak about their time in MRF.
