Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Herzl Halevi and Home Front Command chief Maj. Gen. Tamir Yadai speak with the mayor of the town, Alon Davidi, and visit one rocket impact site, the army says.
Halevi praises the residents of the city and the local government for standing up to “challenging situations.”
Palestinian factions in Gaza declared Thursday that they consider the latest round of violence between Israel and Gaza over, saying that maintaining the peace now depends on Israel. After the statement was released, however, a rocket was fired at the city of Be‘er Sheva, located some 40 kilometers from the Strip. This was the first time rockets were fired at the city since the 2014 Gaza war.
On Tuesday, the Israeli military struck a Hamas military post in Gaza after it said militants fired on Israeli troops on the border. Hamas said two of its fighters were killed after taking part in a gunfire parade inside a militant camp.
The incident occurred while a group of senior Hamas leaders from abroad were visiting Gaza to discuss the ceases-fire efforts with local leaders.
