Ukraine: Right Sector scuffles with mayor of eastern city

Mayor of the eastern Ukrainian city of Poltava Oleksandr Mamay was detained following scuffles with demonstrators at City Hall on Friday, according to deputy head of the City Police Department George Karpichenko.

Violence flared between the mayor and demonstrators who blocked the exit of a room where a city council meeting should have taken place. After the mayor‘s first attempt to exit the room was blocked by Right Sector member Vladimir Vovk, who said was hit by Mamay, the mayor tried another exit, which was again blocked by a demonstrator. Mamay called for the help of security guards to force the exit, which led the way for the clashes to start. Mamay was then taken to a police station.
