Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia established diplomatic relations in 1992. The two countries fruitfully cooperate as part of the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement.

President Berdimuhamedov paid his first foreign visit to Saudi Arabia in April 2007.
