This does not bode well for the U.S. policy towards Korea. It is quite likely that in the first few months of his presidency Donald Trump will approach Kim Jong Un suggesting some kind of talks or, to use Mr. Trump’s favorite expression, a “deal”.
The problem, however, is that North Koreans are not willing to accept any kind of deal which the U.S., even under a more flexible leader, would find acceptable: the North Korean nuclear weapons program is not negotiable, and will never be. Very soon, Donald Trump will find this out.
