When Amna Bawazeer collapsed from a heart attack at Riyadh University in Saudi Arabia, panicked friends called emergency services to take her to the hospital.

Male paramedics showed up — and were barred from entering campus for two hours based on their gender, leaving Amna‘s classmates to watch in horror as their friend slowly died.

This isn‘t the first time women have died because of Saudi Arabia‘s rigid gender policies. In 2002, 15 schoolgirls died in a fire after religious police stopped them from leaving while „improperly attired.“
