It comes immediately after the lifting of the sanctions against Iran by the UN, US, and the EU, and just before Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Iran starting on Friday. Without doubt, Xi’s visit raises high expectations about the future trajectory of China’s relations with Iran. In particular, what remains to be seen is the possibility of any link up between China’s Belt and Road Initiatives in Iran and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
