The nuclear reactors used to power Britain‘s Astute class submarines could pose a potentially fatal safety risk, according to a Ministry of Defence safety report released under Freedom of Information laws.

The safety assessments were included in a report on the status of plans to replace the Vanguard class nuclear deterrent submarines which was prepared for the Defence Board in November 2009.
