Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing visit to Russia, for the annual bilateral summit between the two countries, comes at a crucial juncture. In the past their partnership has been dominated by defence cooperation. But today it’s the economic dimension that’s crying out for attention. And an opening is presented by US-EU sanctions against Russia over Ukraine and counter-sanctions by Russia. Given the missing trade link in India-Russia ties, it’s welcome that Modi is leading a high-powered business delegation on this trip.
