At the center of Gök’s claims is that the National Intelligence Agency (MİT) misinformed the National Security Council (MGK) leading to the decision to conduct the airstrike. As a result 34 civilians including villagers, smugglers, and even children were killed by the airstrike, after being mistaken for armed militants of the Kuridstan Workers Party (PKK). The incident has been coined the Uludere massacre by critics.
