The attack wiped out the electricity supply to 50,000 people. To make matters worse, without a single shot being fired, the Israeli electric company that sells electricity to Gaza cut off another 300,000 inhabitants in the northern part of the strip. This only fueled fears that an aggressive ground assault was imminent.
