First, let’s look at terrorism. Herman and O’Sullivan (1990) show that, “terrorism is mainly an instrument of the powerful, which have the resources to terrorise, a frequent interest in using terror to keep opponents of their rule under control, and the cultural power to define terrorism to exclude themselves and pin the label on their enemies and targets”[1]. The powerful Western governments make no apology for their crimes. We are always the innocent victims of terrorism, never its perpetrator. Today’s enemies and targets are Muslims, home and abroad. Anytime a crime is committed, the accused is depicted as “Islamist” to associate the crime with Muslims and Islam.
