GHF emerged in the public eye earlier this month as Israeli officials began briefing the UN and international NGOs about their new detailed plan to take over – and restrict – aid distribution in Gaza.

According to a memo of those briefings, aid would be distributed from up to five logistic hubs set up in southern Gaza, run by private security contractors and with facial recognition technology to vet beneficiaries.

The GHF is a Switzerland-based nonprofit organization backed by the United States and Israel, which aims to use armed private contractors to provide security at Israeli-designated corridors and distribution “hubs,” from which aid groups would distribute food packages to vetted Gazans.

Jake Wood’s resignation as executive director, which he said comes two months after he was approached to lead the organization, amounts to a vote of no confidence against the foundation’s plan, which has faced skepticism from humanitarian agencies about its feasibility and morality since its inception.
