(16. September) Prime Minister Tony Abbott has left open the possibility that Australia‘s attacks on Islamic State militants could spread across the Iraq border into the terror group‘s heartland in Syria.

The US, which is leading the Middle East mission, has committed to strikes against Islamic State in Syria, but Mr Abbott indicated on Tuesday that Australia will wait for the resolution of legal uncertainties before taking such action.
