The recent recommendation of the NSABB
to restrict publication of research results is
unprecedented and is a major deviation from
common practice in the life sciences. Among
thousands of manuscripts that describe
potential dual-use research according to the NSABB guidelines ( 11), only a handful has
raised questions ( 7, 8, 12) and none has triggered similar advice.
