Probe of the Solar Magnetic Field Using the “Cosmic-Ray Shadow” of the Sun

(2.Juli 2013) The Sun with an optical diameter of about 0.5 ◦ viewed from Earth blocks cosmic rays coming from the direction of the Sun and casts a shadow in the cosmic-ray intensity, which is possibly influenced by the solar magnetic field. The Tibet air shower (AS) experiment has been successfully observing the Sun’s shadow at TeV energies and has confirmed, for the first time, the effect of the solar magnetic field on the shadow.
