On November 2, 2000, a Russian Soyuz rocket carrying Russian cosmonauts Yuri Gidzenko and Sergei Krikalyov and NASA astronaut William Shepherd docked at the International Space Station (ISS). Expedition 1 was the first long-duration stay on the ISS. The mission lasted for 136 days, from November 2000 to March 2001. It was the beginning of human habitation in space.
