The government troops entered the central part of the city on Thursday. Special mission units are searching through the old districts adjoining the medieval fortress towering over Aleppo.

The rebels’ command had to confirm their surrender.

According to a local news agency, the residents of Aleppo are welcoming the army and expressing their gratitude for defending them from gangs of militants.
