The former premier summoned the 800-member council late Wednesday, moving up the meeting originally scheduled for December 8 amid danger of a split in the party between pro-government doves and hawks who think the PdL should break off its unnatural alliance with the centre-left Democratic Party (PD), which is backing a drive for Berlusconi to be ejected from parliament after a tax-fraud conviction.
