Mikhail Bolotskikh, the governor of Ukraine’s eastern Lugansk region, has stepped down under pressure from protesters who gathered outside his office earlier on Sunday to protest his appointment by the interim authorities in Kiev, the local media reports.

“I am asking you to relieve me of my duties,” Bolotskikh said in a statement published on Sunday.
