The telecoms company said it had decided to shut down dial-up, which used to be the way most Britons would access the internet, because the majority of customers now use faster broadband services.

But, for people living in more remote parts of the UK, dial-up internet is the only option and they will be forced to switch to another service if they still want to access the web.
