The commissioning last month of the 75-kilometer railway line from Hairatan on the Uzbekistan border to Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan is being hailed on both sides of the border. Seen as the start of Afghanistan‘s first rail network, it is creating openings for a stronger local economy and increased regional trade.
