After President Biden ordered airstrikes in eastern Syria against an Iraqi militia on Thursday, comments from Vice President Kamala Harris and Press Secretary Jen Psaki on the Trump administration’s Syria airstrikes surfaced on Twitter.
Newly minted Vice President Kamala Harris swore in Georgia Sens. Jon Ossoff (D) and Raphael Warnock (D), who defeated Sens. David Perdue (R.) and Kelly Loeffler (R.) in Georgia’s runoff elections on Jan. 5.
Harris also swore in her successor as California senator, former California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, who will hold the seat through the scheduled end of Harris’s term in 2022.
Vice President Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff made their way down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Executive Office Building, arriving at the office space adjacent to the White House at 4:10 p.m.
Harris made her way down the street shortly after President Biden arrived at the White House, surrounded by family. At one point, reporters could be heard shouting out questions about how she felt and what her first job is upon taking office.
„Just walking to work,“ Harris shouted back.
„I do not believe such a course of action is in the best interest of our Nation or consistent with the Constitution,“ Pence wrote in a letter to Pelosi released Tuesday night.
„Last week, I did not yield to pressure to exert beyond my constitutional authority to determine the outcome of the election, and I will not now yield to efforts in the House of Representatives to play political games at a time so serious in the life of our nation,“ he added.
Obama, after speaking at the Democratic National Convention and headlining a number of fundraisers for the party, is expected to hit the campaign trail next week, according to Democratic Party officials, as he looks to support Biden in the final weeks of the election.
Obama also said that he has seen growth from Biden on foreign policy, noting that while the former Delaware senator voted in 2002 to authorize military force in Iraq, a vote that became a flashpoint during the 2008 presidential primary, Biden had „learned a lesson“ from that.

Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence tested negative for Covid-19 Friday morning, according to a statement tweeted by spokesperson Devin O’Malley.
„As has been routine for months, Vice President Pence is tested for COVID-19 every day. This morning, Vice President Pence and the Second Lady tested negative for COVID-19. Vice President Pence remains in good health and wishes the Trumps well in their recovery,“ O’Malley wrote on Twitter.
Mineta’s Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) testimony was also edited out of the 9/11 Commission video archive.
When questioned about this, representatives at the National Archive stated that the video may have been lost because of a ’snafu‘. Following is a brief summary of the scrubbed video along with links to recently obtained C-SPAN video.
Mineta responds to an opening question by Commissioner Hamilton about the events in the PEOC and an alleged shoot down order. He describes a conversation between Cheney and a young man:
Mineta: „During the time that the airplane was coming into the Pentagon, there was a young man who would come in and say to the Vice President…the plane is 50 miles out…the plane is 30 miles out….and when it got down to the plane is 10 miles out, the young man also said to the vice president „do the orders still stand?“ And the Vice President turned and whipped his neck around and said „Of course the orders still stand, have you heard anything to the contrary!??“

On 9/11, the passengers of Flight 93 fought the hijackers, preventing an attack on what may have been the Capitol or the White House. Former Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta reflects on his experience inside the White House bunker that day.

„Once the first plane hit, we implemented emergency evacuation plans for our field office located in World Trade Center #7. All these individuals were in the process of being evacuated when the second plane hit. While the Secret Service law enforcement personnel assisted NYPD and NYFD evacuate the towers, the administrative staff and temporary personnel were escorted to safety. Secret Service Special Officer Craig Miller was killed while assisting in the evacuation of one of the towers. Later that day, the USSS New York Field Office was lost as World Trade Center #7 collapsed.
Thru monitoring radar and activating an open line with the FAA, the Secret Service was able to receive real time information about other hijacked aircraft. We were tracking two hijacked aircraft as they approached Washington, D.C. and our assumption was that the White House was a target. While the White House was evacuated, the Secret Service prepared to defend the facility.“
It has never been disputed that at all times Cheney was able to communicate with the Pentagon. Nor has it ever been disputed that the Secret Service was always in Cheney’s immediate presence. This is where the entire explanation of who knew what and when offered by the Kean Commission irretrievably falls apart. Below Clarke’s description of the unfolding of a key moment on the morning of 9/11 falls between two time-certain events. We can clearly place the time of this moment atapproximately 9:40 a.m., or one minute before the impact on the Pentagon.
„During the pause [as people in the White House Situation Roompaused to watch President Bush’s first televised remarks at 9:30 a.m.], I noticed that Brian Stafford, Director of the Secret Service, was now in the room. He pulled me aside ….
Stafford slipped me a note. “Radar shows aircraft headed this way.” Secret Service had a system that allowed them to see what FAA’s radar was seeing. “I’m going to empty out the complex.” He was ordering the evacuation of the White House.
Ralph Seigler stuck his head into the room, “There has been an explosion at the Pentagon parking lot, maybe a car bomb.” “
“Secret Service had a system that allowed them to see what FAA’s radar was seeing”?
Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden named Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) as his running mate on Tuesday, ending months of speculation over one of the most consequential decisions of his 2020 presidential bid.
Rice served as a foreign policy aide to Michael Dukakis in the 1988 election, to John Kerry in his 2004 campaign and to former president Barack Obama. She served in the Clinton administration in various capacities, first on the National Security Council from 1993 to 1997 and then as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs from 1997 to 2001. Since 2002 she has served as a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution focusing on foreign policy.
In 2008, Rice was nominated by Obama to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and became national security adviser in 2013.
In combat and in Congress, Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth has seen a lot of firsts.
She was the first female soldier to lose both her legs in the Iraq War. She was the first Thai American woman elected to Congress. And she was the first U.S. senator to give birth while in office.
Now she may become the first Asian American woman nominated to be vice president for a major party in the United States.
The red triangle appeared in paid posts sponsored by Trump and Vice President Pence, as well as by the “Team Trump” campaign page. It was featured alongside text warning of “Dangerous MOBS” and asking users to sign a petition about antifa, a loose collection of anti-fascist activists whom the Trump administration has sought to link to recent violence, despite arrest records that show their involvement is trivial.
Vice presidents and presidents are sometimes encouraged to not be in the same location at the same time.
President Donald Trump hoped this would be the week he emerged into a nation recovering from pandemic. Instead the pandemic came to him.
Miller’s positive test prompted the vice president to delay his takeoff for a trip to Iowa. Six staffers who may have had contact with her deplaned, and all six later tested negative for the virus.
The positive tests reflect the dangers of the virus spreading inside the White House complex, and it further called into question what measures are being taken to try and limit the exposure of the top two elected officials in American government.
Miller is one of Pence’s closest aides and is married to Stephen Miller, one of Trump’s senior advisers.
President Trump said he and Vice President Mike Pence, as well as the White House staff, would now be tested on a daily basis.
Then under Obama, coups changed. They went quiet. In the most cynical of moves, America, the champion of democracy, stopped using violence to undermine democracy and started using democracy to undermine democracy. Legitimately elected leaders began to fall, not to the bullet or bomb, but to coups in the disguise of democracy. The coup evolved into the silent coup: so silent, they were not heard nor noticed.

Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan Saturday met with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, calling on both countries to handle strategic issues in bilateral ties with a broader vision and a longer-term perspective.
Pence’s trip included visiting the U.S. troops in Ayn al-Asad air base in Iraq’s western province of Anbar, where hundreds of U.S. troops are stationed, the Iraqi NINA news agency said.
Bolivia is one of the few South American countries that continues to recognize Nicolas Maduro as the president of Venezuela, breaking with most OAS members. Morales often railed against US imperialism at the UN, most notably at a UN Security Council meeting in 2018 in front of President Trump.
The US Congress funded National Endowment for Democracy (NED) has a strong presence in Bolivia. In 2018, the NED spent nearly one million dollars on programs in Bolivia, with titles like, „Democratic Development From A Private Sector Perspective,“ „Strengthening Democratic Values,“ and „Building Political Party and Civil Society Capacity for a More Participatory, Competitive Electoral Process.“

Mr. Weinberger was scheduled to stand trial on Jan. 5 on charges that he lied to Congress about his knowledge of the arms sales to Iran and efforts by other countries to help underwrite the Nicaraguan rebels, a case that was expected to focus on Mr. Weinberger’s private notes that contain references to Mr. Bush’s endorsement of the secret shipments to Iran.
Barr, who is scheduled to go before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday for his confirmation hearings, ran the Justice Department once before, under President George H.W. Bush.
Back then, the all-consuming, years-long scandal was called Iran-Contra. On Dec. 24, 1992, it ended when Bush pardoned six people who had been caught up in it.
„The Constitution is quite clear on the powers of the president and sometimes the president has to make a very difficult call,“ Bush said then. „That’s what I’ve done.“
He declined to elaborate on why today was chosen for the expression of diversity, but one can assume that Pence’s visit is the reason.
On Guam, a third military base is being built.
In addition to an Air Force base and a Navy base, Guam will be the host of a Marine Corps base to accommodate almost 5,000 Marines who are being relocated out from Okinawa.
“We want to reiterate that Turkey will continue to support Venezuela. … We oppose measures to isolate the country, we are against the sanctions, and we favor dialogue between individuals,” Cavusoglu said.
In recent times, Venezuela has also been participating in stronger trade relations with Turkey having signed a series of bilateral trade and economic agreements.
Before getting into the antique mall business in 2006, he worked for Marathon Oil and Unocal Corporation, then became vice president of Kiel Brothers Oil Company, the family’s gas station and convenience store business. In 2004, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and Greg Pence resigned.
In 2005, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels appointed him deputy commissioner of the state’s Department of Environmental Management — the very same agency that had cited Kiel Brothers for violations in the past.
