Viral Fake Footage Of “Chinese” Atrocities Shows The Power Of Narrative Spin

The only sane response to a situation that is swamped with propaganda and disinformation is to hold tight to skepticism and agnosticism until presented with hard proof. Get comfortable with not knowing, and don’t forget that the power structures presenting you with these narratives have lied to you in the past.

Stay skeptical. Stay critical. Demand hard, verifiable proof about any claim about any US-targeted nation, and if it isn’t given to you, don’t swallow it. This is how you keep your head clear of the propaganda.

The Digital Services Act package

The new Digital Services Act package should modernise the current legal framework for digital services by means of two main pillars:

First, the Commission would propose clear rules framing the responsibilities of digital services to address the risks faced by their users and to protect their rights. The legal obligations would ensure a modern system of cooperation for the supervision of platforms and guarantee effective enforcement.

Second, the Digital Services Act package would propose ex ante rules covering large online platforms acting as gatekeepers, which now set the rules of the game for their users and their competitors.

The EU Digital Services Act: What it is and Why it Shouldn’t Happen

(30.09.2019)

Crucially, the Commission shifted the focus from ISSs to platforms.1 Soon thereafter, the language in the many policy documents on platforms changed. Platforms, the Commission claimed, need to act “responsibly” if they are to continue to benefit from insulation. In its highly controversial Copyright in the DSM Directive the Commission suggests that even ISSs falling under Article 14 ECD need to have effective protective technologies and that they cannot rely on the article if they do not. ‘Active’ providers cannot rely on the protection as they are not responsible enough in the Commission’s mind.

Twitter mob: College researcher forced to resign after study finding no racial bias in police shootings

And while 800 people supported a petition to fire him, more than 2,000 backed him with their signatures, including top academics such as Harvard’s Steven Pinker, as well as MSU professors who said there is “zero concrete evidence that Hsu has performed his duties as VP in an unfair or biased manner.”

“Therefore, removing Hsu from his post as VP would be to capitulate to rumor and character assassination,” the petition said.

False online accusation resulted in a boycott, outrage and “terroristic” threats against venue business

Cuthbertson, in an effort to save his business from losing customers, requested the police give him a head’s up before they come so he could arrange his schedule for meeting potential customers accordingly.

Neither the policemen nor Cuthbertson had an issue with the arrangement.

But then, soon after, George Floyd’s death made national headlines and the issues of race and police brutality were forced into every part of society from news to entertainment.

A comment on a local Facebook page ended up twisting the facts and portrayed Cuthbertson as anti-cop, suggesting that he wouldn’t let cops on the property.

“This place refused to allow the Falls Township Police to sit at his outdoor picnic tables and eat their lunch. If you’re looking for a catering venue, don’t choose this one,” read the comment on a local Facebook page.

No sooner was the comment posted than he started receiving threats on phone calls with people hurling profanities at him.

Monumental stupidity of online smear artists in action: Last night I RT’d a simple tweet with a 2-minute video of Biden angrily demanding massive bombing of Belgrade: seems relevant to know for a presidential candidate. ?‍♂️ Now I’m a Milosevic apologist, war crimes denier, etc.

The trouble with dog-whistles: Paul Embery is the latest victim of the cynical censorship brigade

One of the strange habits of our time is the one in which a self-appointed class roams the land, hands cupped to their ear, hoping to discern something they can identify as a ‘dog-whistle’. I wrote about this habit after Conservative MP Suella Braverman came in for a scolding for using the phrase ‘cultural Marxism’ in a speech.
