WASHINGTON — The director of the CIA disclosed Thursday that the agency had selected just one target in the 11-week air war over Yugoslavia, and its decision led to the accidental bombing of the Chinese embassy in May.
„It was the only target we nominated,“ the director, George Tenet, said at a rare public hearing of the House Intelligence Committee.

Nato spokesman Jamie Shea said it was „a very successful and extensive night of operations.“

Spain has decided on the extension of Patriot air defense missiles deployed in Turkey’s southern Adana province for the next six months because Madrid attaches importance to its NATO ally’s security concerns, Spanish Ambassador Juan Gonzales Barba has told the Hürriyet Daily News.
Paoli and his brother also found the ship’s log for the French Navy’s Suffren missile launching ship, which was in the waters near Nice at the time, but discovered that the entry for Sept 11, 1968, had been torn out.
Ceremonies marking the disaster are scheduled in both Nice and Ajaccio this week.
Analysts fear a new arms race is looming with US withdrawal from cold war nuclear treaty
Speaking at a meeting Friday in Sochi, Putin said delivery of the new Avangard hypersonic vehicle will begin next year while the new Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile will enter duty in 2020.
The Avangard and the Sarmat were among an array of new nuclear weapons Putin presented in March. He noted that they can’t be intercepted. They also included a nuclear-powered global range cruise missile and an underwater drone designed to strike coastal facilities with a heavy nuclear weapon.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russian military vessels with Kalibr cruise missiles would be on permanent standby in the Mediterranean to counter what he said was the terrorist threat in Syria.
The three naval cruise missiles fired from the French frigate Languedoc were initially intended to come from a different French frigate whose first salvo simply “did not fire,” French Joint Chief of Staff spokesman Col. Patrick Steiger told Defense News.
Steiger stated the cause of the misfire was currently unknown; Navy Recognition notes that the launch constituted the first time that the French military had ever actually fired its new MdCN (or “Missile de Croisiere Naval”) naval cruise missiles.
