The Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Gen VK Singh made a surprise trip to North Korea earlier this week as India sought to revive its ties with the isolated country. The visit sent a good signal for the Asian economy.
Singh was the first Indian minister received by the North Korean government in the country in nearly two decades, which added to evidence that Pyongyang will be willing to seek better ties with the international community.
India has for the first time embarked on an initiative to build convention centers in 21 African countries, India’s Economic Times reported. Strategic suspicion has prompted some people to read too much into China and India’s respective cooperation with Africa. But if suspicion can be set aside, China and India can form an alliance with other parties to write new stories in Africa.
The recently held Inter-Korea summit seems to have created some progress towards a peace treaty, and the potential for the nuclear disarmament of North Korea. While the countries of the immediate region and United States are deemed to have the most a stake in a less hostile posture on the Korean peninsula, Australia also has a significant interest in the development of greater trust and cooperation between the two Koreas.
„I hope that after contacts with [our] French colleagues we will set the record straight on how we will cooperate on a settlement to the Syrian crisis in order to observe all rules and norms of the international law and the United Nations Charter,“ Lavrov explained.
The foreign minister noted that on Monday, the Russian and French presidents had a phone conversation „during which Vladimir Putin laid out our stance and confirmed [Russia’s] willingness to coordinate positions with [our] French partners.“
