A reminder that Greece remains in debt bondage under the Troika’s boot. The EuroWorkingGroup (the Troika’s lair) decreed that the return to Greece of its own money (ECB profits from trading in Greek bonds) will be withheld unless home evictions and auctions are accelerated.

Citizens across Europe are beginning to realise that a better world is possible — but it is not prefigured by the neoliberal, neo-colonial politics of the EU. If the Left fails to show what this new world might look like, the Right will do so instead.

Waning Support for Netanyahu Hits His Party in the Gut

An Israel Television News Company survey found that 52 percent of the public does not wish to see him return to the Prime Minister’s Office, while 34 percent do. Not so long ago, the numbers were reversed, in his favor. Something has apparently dented this support.

Former Israeli General Jumps Into 2019 Race To Challenge Netanyahu

ESTRIN: What Benny Gantz did today was form a new party called Israel Resilience. The word in Hebrew, (speaking Hebrew), indicates a toughness. And he used the word in a speech last month when he offered veiled criticism of the current leadership. There had been a lot of speculation that Gantz might run for office. When pollsters asked Israelis who they’d vote for, Gantz came in second even before he announced his candidacy. Gantz hasn’t spelled out his political platform yet, but Israeli commentators believe he’ll brand himself a centrist.

Israel’s Attorney General Must Decide Now on Netanyahu

This is a very problematic message, to say the least. If Netanyahu is dragging a whole country into an early election in the hope of preceding the attorney general’s decision on the corruption investigations, then Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit’s decision to continue the process as if there were no election is tantamount to burying his head in the sand.

Israel Elections – Netanyahu Tells Settler Leaders: The Left Will Try to Take Power With the Media’s Help

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told settler leaders on Wednesday that the left will try to take power in the upcoming elections „using the media and others.“

„They can’t be allowed to succeed,“ Netanyahu said at a meeting in Jerusalem, adding that a left-wing election victory „will be a clear danger to the settlement enterprise.“

Union of the Mediterranean: ‘We are not a project of union, but a union of projects‘

(11.11.2018) With regard to the Arab Spring – just a year before the Union was being renamed and rebranded and against all the odds – the Union was able to create and maintain a structure that focused on trying to achieve results for those regions that were facing a challenging period. Despite the instability which member states of the Union faced during this period, it managed to create the infrastructure for a better future.

Mass Murder and American History

And this is the context in which politicians peddle fear and war. Fear of immigrants is hardly new, hardly the invention of Trump. It has long been a component of American racism. As Trump threatens to dismantle the 14th Amendment and sign an executive order terminating birthright citizenship (an election ploy as the midterms grow nearer), we might want to reflect on good old Executive Order 9066, which Franklin Roosevelt signed in 1942 — and just like that, with a stroke of the pen, forced some 117,000 Japanese-Americans into concentration . . . excuse me, internment camps for the next three years.

Why the British said no to Europe

(25.Juni 2016) The pith helmets may have long gone, but the blood has never dried. A nineteenth century contempt for countries and peoples, depending on their degree of colonial usefulness, remains a centrepiece of modern „globalisation“, with its perverse socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor: its freedom for capital and denial of freedom to labour; its perfidious politicians and politicised civil servants.

All this has now come home to Europe, enriching the likes of Tony Blair and impoverishing and disempowering millions. On 23 June, the British said no more.

The most effective propagandists of the „European ideal“ have not been the far right, but an insufferably patrician class for whom metropolitan London is the United Kingdom. Its leading members see themselves as liberal, enlightened, cultivated tribunes of the 21st century zeitgeist, even „cool“. What they really are is a bourgeoisie with insatiable consumerist tastes and ancient instincts of their own superiority. In their house paper, the Guardian, they have gloated, day after day, at those who would even consider the EU profoundly undemocratic, a source of social injustice and a virulent extremism known as „neoliberalism“.

The aim of this extremism is to install a permanent, capitalist theocracy that ensures a two-thirds society, with the majority divided and indebted, managed by a corporate class, and a permanent working poor.

On his visit, he also met civil rights campaigner Paul Stephenson who organized the Bristol bus boycott in the 1960s which led to an end to a ban on people from ethnic minorities working on Bristol buses. Corbyn compared it with the famous Montgomery bus boycott by Rosa Parks in the United States.

The Disappearing Plot of Land: the state issued an entry permit to „the Seam Zone“ to a Palestinian to tend his lands, after insisting for two years that his plot is not there

Since 2003, the Israeli military has imposed a draconian permit regime in the West Bank areas trapped between the separation wall and the Green Line (the armistice line between Israel and the West Bank), an area it refers to as „the Seam Zone“. The permit regime applies to Palestinians only; Israelis and tourists do not require a permit to enter the Seam Zone or stay in it. Palestinians who live in the Seam Zone or wish to enter it in order to tend to their lands, visit relatives or conduct business, are forced to obtain a permit, subject to the regulations of a stifling and highly bureaucratic military mechanism, which dictates a myriad of conditions for the receipt of permits to enter and stay in the Seam Zone.

In March 2016, a Palestinian resident of the village Qaffin submitted a request for an entry permit to the Seam Zone for agricultural purposes, in order to cultivate land owned by his family for generations. The man, who had previously received a number of permits for the very same plot, received no response to his request for several months…
