India has been developing a part of the port on Iran’s south-eastern coast along the Gulf of Oman as a way to transport goods to Iran, but also Afghanistan and central Asian countries, and avoiding rival Pakistan.
Avaza hosted a meeting of the heads of the competent economic authorities of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan as part of the events of the Caspian Economic Forum.
Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Republic of India, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan participated in the meeting.
Uzbekistan Ambassador Furqat Sidikov has stated that his country desires a trilateral trade commission comprising Pakistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan in an effort to steer trade, logistics and investment. “Uzbekistan has extended its rail line up to Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan and is willing to further extend it up to the Torkham border in a bid to bolster trade ties with Pakistan,”
